A study of redox properties of MoO(sub x)/SiO2
Article Abstract:
A sample of MoO(sub x)/SiO2, containing a Mo cations are presents as isolated mono-oxo molybdate moieties, was prepared and investigated to understand the redox chemistry of molybdate species and their ability to exchange oxygen with O2 and H2O. Results suggest that reoxidation of Mo(super IV) cations following the reduction of involves the formation of Mo-peroxide species and subsequent O atom migration from such a species to the SiO2 support.

Preparation of highly active silica-supported Au catalysts for CO oxidation by a solution-based technique
Article Abstract:
A novel, efficient method is described to synthesize highly active Au catalysts supported on mesoporous silica (SBA-15) through a gold cationic complex precursor via a wet chemical process. The gold nanoparticles in mesoporous silica are generated by reduction under [H.sub.2] atmosphere and the resulting Au catalyst has displayed an extremely high catalytic activity for CO oxidation even below 273 K.

The local environment of [Cu.sup.+] in Cu-Y zeolite and its relationship to the synthesis of dimethyl carbonate
Article Abstract:
Cu-exchanged zeolite was investigated in order to determine the location of the copper cations relative to the zeolite framework and to determine which Cu cations are active for the oxidative carbonylation of methanol to dimethyl carbonate (DMC). All of the Cu exchanged was found to be present as [Cu.sup.+] in sites I', II, and III'.
